Unity in yoga

Sujit De

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Doing it right” (June 21). Yoga asanas can only be a part of yoga and certainly not the whole concept of yoga. It cannot be described as a religious teaching as religion spoils the very concept of yoga. It is all about realising the oneness by tuning the body and mind with the cosmic spirit. The literal meaning of yoga is ‘to connect’. Thus, everything is in yoga or in other words, is in unison. They cannot be made finite or segregated.

There is no place in yoga for religious differences. Unfortunately, when spiritual endeavours produce religions, they become confined and start fighting amongst each other about things that ahrdly matter. This has caused several communal bloodbaths in India over the years. And unlike religion, yoga is all about spirituality, unity and fraternity.
