Uniform wages

Jl Ganjoo

The NDA Government’s  decision on one-rank-one-pension should be welcomed by the Army veterans, given the failure of previous Governments to implement the scheme. Also, the Army veterans want the pension to be re-worked bi-annually. This seems odd for the reason that till a uniform wage policy covering the entire spectrum of Service class is not evolved, areas of differences will persist.

Currently, wages and pension of Central Government employees and pensioners is revised every 10 years. In the banking sector, the duration between wage revision for serving employees is five years but the same is not true for bank retirees. The concept of minimum wages applies only to the organised sector of the labour class. Such anomalies, if left unattended for long, are likely to create problems for the Government.
