Sir — This refers to the editorial, “No substitute to debate” (July 24). The Congress’s demand for the resignations of Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, as a pre-condition for allowing Parliament to function, is unfair and preposterous. The alleged involvement of the leaders was neither secret nor motivated by personal gains.
Ms Swaraj is willing to make a statement in Parliament, the CBI is probing the Vyapam scam, and Ms Raje has already clarified her stand. But the Congress and like-minded parties are not allowing both the Houses to function. In a parliamentary democracy, debate, discussion and deliberation are of paramount importance. The Congress must change its stand.
