Unequal law

KV Seetharamaiah

Sir — Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was ticketed by the london traffic police, for having parked her limousine for 45 minutes without paying.

But in India, the law works selectively. The latest example is of the conspiracy and the corruption in respect of coal block allocation.   Industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, former Coal Secretary PC Parakh and a few others have been named by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the case of irregularities in allocation of coal blocks eight years ago. But the CBI does not touch Mr Manmohan Singh who was the ultimate decision-maker in the allotment, both as Prime Minister and then Union Minister for Coal.
