Sir—The pro-Pakistan slogan by National Conference MlA Muhammad Akbar lone in Jammu & Kashmir Assembly is indeed shocking besides exposing his real mindset towards the nation. Stringent action against the duplicitous lawmaker by the State/Union Government under appropriate laws of the land, apart from the party mandarin, is absolutely inevitable for his brazen support to Pakistan. The current system of approving candidates for contesting elections sans verifying their antecedents is irrational, which ultimately imperils the interest of the country. People’s mandate alone cannot be the outright criteria to become a lawmaker. It should also imbibe the legitimate spirit of democratic ethics. Imperatively, our unbiased political pundits should formulate a holistic electoral mechanism.
