Sir — It is rather painful to note that a 28-year-old boy, an aspirant for UPSC examination in New Delhi, committed suicide for denial of entry into the examination hall for being late by four minutes.
Generally for all examinations, an examinee is allowed to write the exam if he or she comes within first 30 minutes. Since no one is allowed to go out within first 30 minutes, the late comers cannot have access to the question papers.
logic of this rule has substance. It is not understandable if this rule is applicable in the case of UPSC examination as well. It is foolishness on part of the UPSC aspirant to commit suicide.
Examination is important but it is not more important than life. In every nook and corner of the country, the administration is paralysed for not following rules. In this case, observance of rules has cost the life of the student. Invigilators should have thought over the pros and cons of their action on the future of the aspirant even though it cannot be conjectured that the boy would commit suicide.
