There's no respite

Jagadesanv

Sir — This refers to the report, “Sensex tanks 769 points” (August 17). There seems to be no respite, at least not in the immediate future, from the economic gloom that grips this nation, despite having a decorated economist Prime Minister and a Harvard-trained Finance Minister at the helm.

The Food Security Ordinance will be catastrophic for the economy and it will take decades to bring it back to normalcy. As per the Committee on Agricultural Costs and Prices, a mind boggling expenditure of `6,82,183 crore will be required in the first three years alone. This will ruin the economy. The Congress-led UPA regime may not win a mandate again, but whichever alliance comes to power will be faced with the herculean task of bailing out the economy.
