There's conspiracy

SC Panda
Sir — This refers to the article, “When the Indian elephant stirs, US must shake” (December 22) by Chandan Mitra. The article gives rise to certain pertinent points. It appears that Ms Devyani Khobragade, the Indian diplomat in New York, and not her domestic help, Ms Sangeeta Richard, is the victim.
The fact that a close relation of Ms Richard is/was working in the US Embassy in New Delhi and the ‘evacuation’ of her family members from India to the US by the latter in unseemly haste lend sufficient basis to the conspiracy in which the US was involved.
Of course, the surprise discovery of the UPA leadership’s spine is welcome, and so is the near total unanimity from across the political spectrum in support of Ms Devyani. One wonders, if such rare unity had been exhibited  in recent months towards our neighbours, especially Pakistan and China, India could have earned enormous respect in the comity of nations.
