This refers to the editorial, “Far too many minefields” (September 19). The editorial discusses where the ‘right to die' is “legally contentious and emotional”. It also correctly talks from the viewpoint of those that are suffering irreparably due to severe ailments, with no hope of living with dignity in future.
Patients like Aruna Shanbaug, who even cannot breath of her own accord, must have a right to end their lives. The verdict on such issues of euthanasia cannot be overlooked in cases where patients are profusely suffering from bodily ailments.
What humane good can there possibly be by making them sufferIJ The flip emotional part of such cases cannot be ignored here, when, after a consecutive failure in medical surgery, the patient is also treated as a burden and the kith and kin of the patient desire to relieve the victim from a deplorable situation. As far as the question of misuse is concerned, such matters must come for close scrutiny.
