Letter to the Editor

The real battle to fight terrorism must begin

Meghana A

This refers to the editorial, “Taliban's bloody attack” (August 10). The events in Quetta once again reiterates the fact that Pakistan remains vulnerable to meticulously planned urban terrorism of particularly grotesque dimensions. In reality, this is just another bombing...just another item in the litany of murder of innocent people whose only crime was that they were present in a wrong place at the wrong time. We must condemn terror acts wherever they may occur, there can be no justification for violence and murder on any grounds.

Half measures in the fight against terrorism has ensured that the problem will not disappear anytime soon. law enforcement agencies cannot fight this battle with hands tied behind their back. That the terror groups have ideological brothers representing them in the legislature, makes the fight an unequal one. Without a change in mindset, the battle of targeting terror groups, their supporters, financiers, trainers and shelterers cannot begin. The farce being enacted in the name of fighting terrorism must end and real battle must begin.
