Letter to the Editor

The corrupt have ruined the country's image

Rukhsana Khan

This refers to the editorial, “Hide-and-seek game over” (October 4). It saddens one that our country, once called the ‘golden bird', has been brought to infamy by a handful of unscrupulous elements, both in our political class as well as in the bureaucracy. But the aam aadmi's shattered hope has been revived by a couple of instances of administration of justice at the hands of our judiciary which, with exceptions, has been maintaining the high dignity and reverence which is associated with the office and the profession.

Sadly, political compulsions compel even honest politicians and civil servants to compromise and adjust to the whims and fancies of tainted leaders and mandarins who wish to keep their political pot boiling. This looks like a vicious circle as there are many examples when the corrupt from the outgoing regimes tactfully manage to rustle one or the other people up in order to stick steadfastly to their positions of power.
