Sustainable growth requires patience

Kanishka Pathak

This refers to the editorial, “GDP in need of botox” (September 22). There is a trounce in the growth indices and that does not allude the facts that the course chosen for achieving growth is awry, may be due to other extraneous factors that indirectly influence growth rates in India. To give a fillip to the economic infrastructure, the ruling dispensation is leaving no stone unturned and has launched a litany of schemes. Recently, the launch of the country’s first bullet train, in conjunction with Japan, exemplified the hankering to create a niche in logistics management.

The ‘Make in India’ programme will ensure trinity purposes of setting up manufacturing base in India, will provide employment to indigenous masses and shore up the socio-economic growth machinery. With the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax, trade and commerce has become more agile by streamlining bureaucratic rigmaroles. Empowerment is reaching at grassroot levels with the formation of the Niti Aayog, which is magnanimous in its approach and pro-active citizen partnership is leading to better policy formulation and implementation. India may not have done wonders in improving its ranking in ‘ease of doing business’ as reported by the World Bank, but patience is required to reap the benefits of growth, inducing schemes.
