This refers to the editorial, "India's befitting reply" (September 28). The much-anticipated address of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at the UN General Assembly did not disappoint us. The speech was well-drafted, crisp and balanced. Swaraj astutely warmed the audience of the global problems before gradually drawing them into the evils of terror and the nefarious ways of Pakistan. She did well by speaking in Hindi because she had to carefully connect to a domestic audience. That Pakistan was nurturing terror by sheltering, arming and funding terrorists, could not have been stressed more emphatically than the way Swaraj did.
Moreover, the Minister was successful in underlining Pakistan's disdain towards India's friendly overtures, thereby striking the right balance in her address by reiterating India's efforts towards peace in the region. India now seems to be aiming at a multi-pronged approach to alienate Pakistan, with a slew of diplomatic and economic measures.
