This refers to the editorial, “Deserved pat on the back” (December 1). The editorial has justifiably appreciated the efforts of Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Truly, railways is the backbone of India's economy. The Morgan Stanley report has already stated that Mr Prabhu has been taking an “innovative approach” to fund the railways. Mr Prabhu’s approach to develop Indian Railways will do away with the populist agenda, so that he is responsible for his constituent alone.
In order to mobilise huge resources, Mr Prabhu has devised a strategy to collect funds by issuing green bonds. This will also create an eco-friendly environment. Also, vacant land around the railway tracks will be utilised to build large-scale solar power projects; this will help meet the climate change goals. Steps taken by Mr Prabhu are commendable and his innovative approach will take the railways truly far. If Mr Prabhu continues with his good work, he will achieve the agenda of development very soon.
