This refers to the editorial, “Sage advice from SC” (August 29). The Supreme Court's decision to deliver the sagely advice that it is upon the Prime Minister of India to select his or her council of Ministers, is polemical.
The court has ensured that the judiciary must not dabble in the appointment of Ministers. It is shocking that the Supreme Court failed to come up with a concrete solution on the menacing appointment of tainted political leaders to ministerial posts. The Supreme Court is an institution for dispensing justice. It has failed to live up to expectations.
How can the Supreme Court grant complete powers to the executive if the latter's appointments are unscrupulousIJ The court should have taken the Public Interest litigation regarding the appointment of tainted leaders as an opportunity to overhaul this upended selection mechanism, by directing both the legislature and executive to peruse the matter and come up with a credible solution.
