Stray dogs may also threaten human lives

Azhar A Khan

This refers to the article, “Feeding strays is right thing to do” (June 30) by Hiranmay Karlekar. Canine rearing, being a symbol of social status and by implication included in a citizen's fundamental duties to have compassion for living creatures, is covered under Article 51A(g) of the Constitution. Still, a dog known for its loyalty is also frequently referred to as a despised category of animals — people curse their enemies with kutte ki maut (a dog's death). legendary actor Dharmendra has repeated this as a taboo in many of his films.

Stray animals, like cows and dogs in particular, pose a threat to human beings in public places. All nature, including mountains, animals, plants, birds and other living things have been created with a view to facilitate human lives. Naturally, humans assume much more significance than other living creatures. In the said situation. Feeding stray animals in public is tantamount to imperiling human lives and, hence, in no way is justified.
