Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Southern discomfort” (March 9). Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu played a master stroke by breaking ties with the BJP. Special category status is important for the development of the State, but apart from procedural hurdles, the BJP feared this would lead to other States, such as Bihar making similar demands.
Besides, there is also the political compulsion of making such a move since the main Opposition in the State, YSR Congress, showed an aggressive stance on the same issue. This bold step will grant TDP an overwhelming public sympathy across the State.
