This refers to the editorial, “Playing with the law” (December 14). The Samajwadi Party is indeed playing with national interest. When politicians like those of the SP want to get freedom for people accused of terrorist activities simply because the accused belong to a particular community, it shows the pressure that our law enforcing agencies are under to toe the politicians' line.
It reiterates my belief that the administration is being coerced everywhere to weaken such cases so that, after the initial horror and outrage, the perpetrators can escape.
The Muzaffarnagar riots took place because the ruling party’s politicians in Uttar Pradesh were biased in favour of some members of the minority community. First Information Reports were filed against members of the majority community and compensation was announced only for the affected Muslims. This country is being pushed towards a sectarian war by parochial politicians who are concerned only about their vote banks.
