SP's dual policy

Sagar Singh

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Wrong in every way” (August 22).

You have rightly stated that 20 per cent reservation in the 85 development and welfare schemes in Uttar Pradesh is nothing but minority appeasement, keeping in view the forthcoming lok Sabha election. The Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party Government is actively and unabashedly pursuing the policy of appeasement, which is discriminatory, to say the least. There are ways, other than reservation, to work for the upliftment of minorities like promoting self-employment, skill development etc.

A true example of overall development of a State and its people, irrespective of religion, caste and creed, is Gujarat, where even the Muslim community has appreciated and supported Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his development work. Mr Yadav should draw inspiration from Gujarat’s development model and refrain from the politics of the minority vote-bank.
