SP is to be blamed for Muzaffarnagar riots

Nimai Charan Swain

This refers to the editorial, “Stripped of all credibility” (September 17). The Uttar Pradesh Government must be held accountable for the deplorable communal conflagration in Muzaffarnagar.

The violence was triggered by an eve-teasing incident. Had the local administration acted promptly and firmly against the accused, the issue would not have taken communal proportions.

But the need for self-preservation has blinded the ruling dispensation. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his father are mollycoddling the minority community to secure their votes. How can they preserve democratic valuesIJ Communal violence has been on the rise in the State ever since the Samajwadi Party came to power. This Government has sown the ingredients for communal discord. Uttar Pradesh can only progress when there is social accord. But it is tragic that the State administration has a partisan temperament and engages in crony politics.
