Letter to the Editor

Silence speaks

PN Saxena

Sir — This is with reference to the editorial, “Saarc focus on terror” (November 28). While most of the eight Saarc members are ready to actively cooperate in the war against terrorism in South Asia, Pakistan has remained silent. It appears to have some reservations on this issue. Given its background, this is not surprising. Bangladesh has clamped down on anti-India activities on its soil; the Burdwan terror events had been first been reported to Bangladesh by India. The story is the same with Nepal and Bhutan. Sri lanka has already exterminated the lTTE menace of terror, with India’s support.

The Maldives is not free from terror threats, and has shown a strong desire to face the menace. Afghanistan has backed India’s position on terrorism. This isolates Pakistan in Saarc.
