Sir — The ruling party in Uttar Pradesh enacted in full public glare, a shoddy drama that has ill-served the largest State in the country. The ruling Yadav family has reduced the Samajwadi Party to a real estate, to be divided among claimants. It has lost all claims to a mandate for another term in Uttar Pradesh.
Ironically, this is now happening in a party that was born of its founders’ disgust with the Congress’s dynastic rule. Waiting in the wings, the principal opposition parties — Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party and the BJP — must be grinning from ear to ear at their improving prospects as a fallout of the internecine war in the Samajwadi Party. Only time will tell what the final outcome will be.
