Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 13th edition of Mann ki Baat, called for the need to promote organ donation to save human lives. This aspect should be made popular by encouraging body donation. Many eminent personalities like Captain laxmi Sahgal, Anil Biswas, Vishnu Prabhakar, Jyoti Basu and Nanaji Deshmukh had opted to give their bodies to medical colleges.
Body donations can and should be popularised and adopted in practice by giving state honours to those departed leaders who have donated their bodies for medical education. Commoners usually follow the trend set by political leaders. Once the phenomenon is made compulsory for leaders, people will follow. Thus, this will make human bodies available in plenty for medical research and education.
