Sir —This refers to the editorial, “let him bear the cross” (March 26). We like to overlook even the worst crimes committed by persons we adulate. This is what has happened with the court judgement in Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt’s case. People who never tire of eulogising the Indian judicial system, are rushing to the film star’s defence now that he has been sentenced to five years in jail for illegal possession of arms.
They have become totally blind to the fact that he has been sentenced on the basis of certain strong evidence against him. If he is indeed pardoned, then there should be no harm in scrapping all the laws and even the judicial system in this country!
