Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Racist, uncouth netas” (April 3). Implicit in your observation is the fact that, with bigger posts comes bigger responsibilities. It is shocking to hear racist and misogynistic remarks from Union Minister Giriraj Singh against a woman parliamentarian and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who is otherwise endowed with the knack of criticising her bitterest rivals in polite words. This is not a one-off incident through which the Minister has created an embarrassing situation for the Government. He is a serial offender, though he is not the only politician to be so.
Your observation that the Union Government’s reluctance to act against the Minister’s misogynistic remarks is because of political duress, and stemming from the ensuing Assembly election in Bihar, where Mr Singh hails from, will further hearten him.
