Sensible manifesto

Vani Acharya

Sir — The BJP’s much-delayed election manifesto has made good the long period that the party languished in the Opposition benches in Parliament. The manifesto contains Mr Narendra Modi’s stamp — a vision of India, emphasis on talent, tradition, tourism, trade and technology, focus on rainbow principles such as growth with jobs, minimum Government and maximum governance, and building Brand India.

There are no fundamental differences between the BJP and the Congress in economic policies. But the BJP scores on two things: Its long-term economic agenda and the fact that it has gone to the micro-level of whatever it has promised. Manifestos promise much that Governments are in no position to implement.  If Mr Modi delivers development, he will not need any divisive agenda in 2019.
