This refers to the article, “‘Devi’ Mayawati and her politics of hate” (July 28) by Rajesh Singh. The author has rightly highlighted Bhujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati’s ‘politics of hate’ at a time when most Indian journalists treat her with kid gloves, never questioning her alarming propaganda and its dangerous consequences.
This self-acclaimed ‘Dalit ki beti’ (a Dalit’s daughter) who has amassed millions, explaining that these were gifts by her devout followers, is hardly ever asked for her sudden wealth. She does not recognise the historic role of the majority community leaders, repenting the centuries-old guilt of injustice to lower castes, to introduce revolutionary changes in the Constitution-reservations-for their welfare and uplift.
