See how the definition of nationalism has changed

MC Joshi

This refers to the report, “lawyers at it again, apex court may shift out trial” (February 18). What happened at the Patiala House court premises must be condemned in the strongest way and the culprits should be booked. However, news channels showing footages of the alleged attacker in company of leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party made little sense. People have their own sense of judgement to realise what is wrong and right.

In the name of freedom of expression, an eminent jurist like Fali S Nariman came  out in defence of those who not only raised anti-national slogans at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, but also celebrated the death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. This hurts even those who are not BJP or RSS supporters. Great leaders who fought for the independence of this country were patriots and nationalists, but now, for a few people, the ‘nationalist’ happens to be an object of abuse and ‘nationalism’ a dirty word.
