Secure jobs

TT Sakaria

Sir — This refers to the article “The abiding lure of a Government job” (September 28) by Balbir K Punj. The writer has raised a significant issue. Since a Government job is quite secure and the lowest salary is around Rs18,000 per month to start with, excluding guaranteed benefits, and there is provision for regular upward revision, and every employee enjoys considerable liberty and authority, who will opt for a job in private companies, where the situation is altogether different and totally insecureIJ

Since the rate of unemployment continues to soar and dishearten our qualified and talented youth, corruption and bribery becomes a part of Government recruitment. It also escalates the demand for reservation from various quarters.

If more people are employed at a lesser salary, on a contractual basis or otherwise, it will ease function in the Government departments and people can be served at better and faster pace.
