Say no to shady deals

Christopher Thomas

Sir — This refers to the article, “Army has to face the reality” (April 25) by Pravin Sawhney. War preparedness should always remain the first priority of the Army. But does procurement of a few helicopters and missiles give the Army the teeth and the capability to take on a nationIJ Perhaps not. It is the intangibles — integrity, morale, uprightness, which are the crucial, all important elements.

The halt on shady deals has not harmed the modernisation process. But by accepting suspect deals as they were, the Army and the nation stood to lose far more.
