Samajwadi Party ruins communal peace in UP

Hanit Singh Chauhan

Ever since the Samajwadi Party has come in the power in Uttar Pradesh, there has been communal tension and repeated riots in the State. The recent violence in Saharanpur has once again underlined the glaring loopholes in the functioning of the State Government. It is evident that the incumbent regime has not learned anything from its past failures.

After the Muzaffarnagar riots, there have been major incidents of communal confrontation in cities such as Meerut, Moradabad and Saharanpur, but nothing seems to wake the Akhilesh Yadav regime from its slumber. Such incidents not only bring disrepute to the State but also debilitate investor sentiments. As it is, the State suffers from lack of industrialisation and employment opportunities.

In the 2012 State election, when people voted overwhelmingly in favour of the Samajwadi Party, they had not envisaged in their worst dreams that the Government they had elected would prove to be such a disaster.
