Samajwadi Party is down and out in UP

Ganapathi Bhat

This refers to the report, “SP goes UP the down alley” (October 25). Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is not keen to toe the line of his father, not withstanding his rich encomiums to the latter in his speech. Shivpal Yadav is Amar Singh's man. Mulayam Singh Yadav is torn between the two, unable to pull out his ‘famous' ace or two up his sleeve. The uncle-nephew war is nothing but a calculated move to wrest supremacy over ticket distribution in the upcoming Assembly poll, with no leader ready to part with his share of the pie. The Samajwadi Party is down and out in Uttar Pradesh through its inefficiency, maladministration and corruption.

The BJP is consolidating its position in the State — Prime Minister Narendra Modi's hard hitting speeches are drawing huge crowds. Rita Bahuguna Joshi's entry into the party will help the BJP garner votes of some sections. Akhilesh Yadav's appeal with the young and the middle class is waning. He looks frustrated.
