Letter to the Editor

Safe return

Sagar Singh

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Humanitarianism prevails” (May 27). The safe return of an Indian woman, Uzma Ahmed — married with a congenitally disordered daughter, back to India, from the clutches of her ‘forced’ Pakistani husband, with the help of Sushma Swaraj; the Minister of External Affairs, is a matter of happiness.

The judge who was hearing Uzma’s case, saw it with a humanitarian viewpoint, rather than through the acerbic relations between the two nations. We must be circumspect, more so as not to get entrapped in the glib-talking  Pakistani youth, and end up in the ‘well of death’, as Uzma puts it.
