This refers to the editorial, “Retaining advantage” (February 10). It is quite unfortunate that nine Indian soldiers were killed in an avalanche at the Siachen glacier. The risk that our soldiers encounter while guarding the borders cannot be described in words.
Hundreds of soldiers, from both India and Pakistan, have lost their lives while safeguarding the borders. There is no doubt that Pakistan is eager to occupy the Siachen glacier, China too instigates the former on this score. In light of this, demilitarising Siachen is risky and must not be done until India-Pakistan relations normalise.
