Revamp policy on China; tackle incursions boldly

MC Joshi

This refers to the editorial, “Bold and brazen China” (April 25). What a snub to India and its uncertain, half-hearted response to the flagrant territorial violation by China, which, while audaciously denying any intrusion by its troops, has claimed that the 10km inside the line of Actual Control in Depsang valley is actually Chinese territory!

We have a history of being beaten by the Chinese. But despite the rancour of the past and the 1962 war, India has made all-out efforts to  have good relations with Beijing. But the latter has responded with provocative actions like laying claim on Arunachal Pradesh, opposing visits of top Indian civil and military authorities to that State, and denying visas to residents of the State. It tried to thwart oil and natural gas exploration in two Vietnamese blocks in the South China Sea by ONGC Videsh ltd. Keeping all this in mind and the frequent incursions along the lAC, New Delhi needs to revamp its obsolete China policy and show some spine.
