Sir — This refers to the report, “6 men give birth to Janata Parivar” (April 16). The merger of six regional outfits of the erstwhile Janata parivar, which was in the air for the last six months, was ultimately announced on April 15. However, no name, symbol, and flag of the newborn party have been announced. We know that Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav will be chief of the still unnamed party.
Media reports have suggested that there are serious differences within the Samajwadi Party, its Uttar Pradesh State unit and even within Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav’s family over the merger. The feeling is that the party will be a loser. The biggest beneficiary of the merger will be RJD chief lalu Prasad, whose support base had shrunk over the years. The SP has little presence outside Uttar Pradesh. So is the case with other outfits too who will gain little in their respective States.
