This refers to the editorial, “let’s rethink reservations” (September 24). Verily speaking, reservations at the cost of meritocracy have done crippling damage to lots of students. This naturally is a cause for much heart-burn, as due to reservation, hundreds of the less-deserving get benefits while deserving students are left out.
You have hit the nail on the head in observing that the source of income must be the lone criteria for reservation and that too should not be limited to a particular community.
The fathers of our Constitution had made the provision for reservation taking into consideration the economical and social backwardness of the society. However, the situation now is different, as the backward castes have been able to ride over their economic problems through the benefits coming their way from the reservation policy.
