Rescuing children

Azhar A Khan

Sir — This refers to the article, “Unending ordeal of children” by Harun Yaha (May 15). The writer has hit the nail on the head by maintaining that there is no want of resources in the world to cater to the needs of food, shelter and safety but the real problem lies in the maladministration of these resources.

Apparently, wrong distribution of resources affects the weaker sections that include women and children even as the rich and the powerful grab the opportunity. Children bear the brunt of this abysmal situation created across the world by wars, penury and violations of human right. According to reports by the United Nations Children’s Fund and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, with poverty comes other fatal diseases even as thousands of children are killed in bomb attacks while others are injured and face lack of hospitalisation and medicines.

The writer is spot-on to opine that people should be encouraged to extend their helping hand in terms of donations and other schemes to the children. Side by side, laws that are already in place should be amended to the extent that children get humanly treatment in the real sense of the word. We must spare no effort to help them.
