This refers to the article, “A pernicious plan for Kashmir” (December 3) by Hari Om, the editorial, “Yes, debate Article 370” (December 3) and PDP leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's remark on the issue.
Mr Hari Om has exposed the unworthy desires of the PDP and its leader. BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has called a spade a spade in demanding a discussion on the Article. He has articulated a crying national need. History informs that when Sheikh Abdullah brought the proposal to BR Ambedkar, Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee, the latter flatly refused to accommodate the proposal because of its unequal nature. He reluctantly agreed when he was persuaded by Jawaharlal Nehru that the provision would be of a temporary nature.
Mr Sayeed's statement that Article 370 is of a permanent nature, is not based on truth. This aspect, together with the views of Kashmiri Hindus and ladakh's Buddhists, need to be considered.
