This refers to the article, “The other Islamic State you did not notice” (March 28) by Anish Gupta and Tamal Dasgupta. This revealing article raises some important issues. The two writers have convincingly exposed the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics for fudging data on religion-wise population share and growth shown in the table along with the article. The objective of the Bangladeshi Government to show that the growth in favour of Muslims is not abnormal stands, exposed. In 2004, when a secular Government came to power, it had fiddled with the 2001 decadal census data.
But why is the NDA Government not releasing similar data on religious demographyIJ let the country know the truth. It will dispel the notion that the Hindus want to dominate. The irony in Kashmir is that, after expelling the Hindus, almost all of the valley Muslims, whether separatist or mainstream, are
united over not diluting the Muslim majority.
