Letter to the Editor

Rein in fringe elements that are dividing society

Azhar A Khan

This refers to the editorial, “A communal cauldron” (October 5). Safety and security of the minority community rest not only with the ruling dispensation, but also with the majority community. Sadly, with social decadence, all norms and standards in this regard have gone down the drain. With respect to the Dadri mob lynching case, even if the victim, Mohammad Ikhlaq and his family were guilty of beef consumption, we have laws to deal with such cases. Nobody has the right to take the law in his or her hands .

On the face of it, some vested interests exploited the tense situation in Bisara village near Dadri, just the way it was done in the Muzaffarnagar violence in 2013. The sole purpose was to divide society on religious lines for political gains. We must be wary of their nefarious designs to vitiate communal harmony and brotherhood in the State and should leave no stone unturned to save the situation from aggravating further.
