Real alternative

Rukhsana Khan

Sir — Amid the country’s political atmosphere which is rife with speculation, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav’s observation about the Third Front forming the next Union Government carries weight, as despite the short life-spans of similar coalition regimes at the Centre so far, prospects of another such Government cannot be ruled out outright.

The people are disillusioned with both the Congress-led UPA and the BJP-led NDA, and that has culminated in huge chunks of floating voters across the country. The Aam Aadmi Party’s triumph in Delhi has upset many political equations, but its influence outside the national capital will take time to grow.

Going by the present political scenario, neither the NDA nor the UPA may get an outright majority. This will bring in the Third Front.  On the face of it, Mr Yadav stands out well against other prime ministerial candidates from the Third Front.
