Rahul Gandhi puts up an unconvincing show

Sagar Singh

This refers to the editorial, “Empty words, no more” (January 29). Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's one-on-one interaction with a prominent television news channel anchor shows that his party has resorted to lies in order to check a resurgent BJP and Mr Narendra Modi. The Congress wants to sully Mr Modi's image, although the Gujarat Chief Minister has been exonerated by a Special Investigation Team and the courts. Mr Gandhi rakes up the Gujarat incident where justice is being done, but he is vague on the dubious deeds of his party leaders such as Mr Ashok Chavan and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh.

On being asked as to why he does not see any analogy between the Gujarat violence and the 1984 massacre of Sikhs, he claims that the anti-Sikh violence was not sponsored by the state. The country is witness to the fact that several prominent Congress leaders in Delhi led mobs who targeted the Sikh community.
