Sir — This refers to the article, “Army has to face the reality” (April 25) by Pravin Sawhney. An Army fights as much with gumption and guts as with equipment, but the equipment purchases have to be done in an atmosphere devoid of corruption and wheeling-dealing.
I think the steps initiated for ensuring the much-needed transparency are in the right direction and need to be interpreted as such. It is very important for the Indian Army to be seen and acknowledged by the Indian public as being on a moral high ground, and devoid of any blemish.
One has to be scrupulous on the issue of weapons’ acquisition, and not rush into seemingly ‘lucrative’ arms deals, as the consequences of such deals continue to reverberate for decades.
