This refers to the editorial, “Promote Indian literature” (February 19). It will be wrong to interpret the Rajasthan Government’s move to popularise Indian literature as an insidious design to promote a misplaced brand of ‘Hindu nationalism’.
On the other hand, it was an insidious design by the Jawaharlal Nehru Government to promote Western education in India as if there was nothing to learn about Indian literature. I still remember a story in a high school book being taught in India (in early 1970s, when India was under Nehru-Gandhi influence) that talked about family values. The story was based in Europe, implying that there were no family values in India to talk about!
