This refers to the article, “Is the Priyanka factor Congress’s only hopeIJ” (July13) by Rajesh Singh. Congress scion Priyanka Gandhi Vadra can bring a breath of fresh air to the Congress. The grand old party does have good leaders, but to their dismay, none is given the opportunity to lead the party from the front. History and statistics will prove that a ‘dying party' can resurrect itself. On the one hand, the party is suffering from leadership crisis, and on the other hand, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has been a total failure.
Priyanka Vadra, who looks like Indira Gandhi and is the most meritorious in her generation of Gandhis, can bring an image makeover. She can take the mantle of the party and lead the battle from the front in a long-drawn political fight. She is indeed an idea whose time has come. Widely seen as the Congress's trump card, Priyanka Vadra is the only option for the Congress. In politics, ultimately public perception matters.
