Sir — We’ve seen many scandals involving the private sector such as the 2G Spectrum and the coal scams, where rules were amended for certain players. Due to lack of accountability, private sector companies often go unchecked. Only a few cases are unearthed, mostly due to media pressure and the intervention of the courts.
This is the era of public-private partnerships. If the private sector has contributed towards the development of the country, it is equally responsible for its downfall, be it due to corruption or otherwise. Therefore, the private sector should be brought under the purview of the Right to Information Act. The Comptroller and Auditor-General should be allowed to audit private companies and the lokpal given powers to act upon complaints against private companies.
