This refers to the editorial, “The flames of anarchy” (June 17). Ever since the Samajwadi Party Government came into power in Uttar Pradesh, law and order has gone for a toss. The killing of journalist Jagendra Singh, allegedly by a police-politician nexus, is yet another example to the ever deteriorating law and order situation in the biggest Indian State.
We all know how Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, despite being junior to most of his colleagues, overpowers most senior Ministers in the State. So it does not come as a surprise if Mr Yadav has not yet sacked Mr Ram Murti Verma — the Minister accused of Jagendra Singh’s death. It will be unfortunate if the President will have to intervene and order Mr Yadav to act. Of course, one cannot take the law in their hands, but then these powerful politicians have amazing powers in their owns hands, which they abuse to the hilt.
