Poor policies

KC Rout

Sir — During the long rule of the left Front in West Bengal, almost all industries were destroyed in the State due to strikes and dharnas by trade unions. Former Chief Minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee realised that the left’s industrial policies were wrong and sought to welcome Tata’s Nano car project in Singur. But Ms Mamata Banerjee did not allow the car project in the State.

As Chief Minister, Ms Banerjee is continuing with the same old bad policies. She has commanded her party activists to burn the recently amended land acquisition Bill. With this attitude, no industrialisation is likely to happen in West Bengal.

Once upon a time, people from all over the country came to seek employment in the factories and mills of Kolkata. Now, young men from Bengal go to Gujarat, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh for jobs. It is unlikely that West Bengal will regain its lost glory under Ms Banerjee’s leadership.
