The Election Commission of India has in its usual style let off Union Minister Sharad Pawar with just a simple warning rather than a really deserved stringent punishment befitting an erring politician seated on the high post that he is, for his deliberate and damage-causing advice to his followers to vote twice in the lok Sabha election.
The Election Commission should issue a white paper on cases where it has actually punished erring politicians. The poll panel has to discontinue its practice of giving mere warnings to such politicians, because leaving them unpunished encourages poll-related violations. The Election Commission acts like a toothless tiger in case of poll-related evils. Strict and stringent punishment by the Election Commission to political leaders is needed to create a fear-psychosis amongst the violators against making poll-related offence.
